http to https website
Hi guys
I finally did the transition from http website to a https website. I was kind of scared or lazy because of the numerous articles giving massive tutorials on how to effectively move a site without losing traffic or ranking. I wa however painless the only thin i had issues with were and parts of my website hta had absolute urls in the html , i changed them to relative paths and also forced a wre write in my htaccess document. Also be aware of any background urls in the css if you are using static html as these my also be absolute paths. The last thing was JavaScript calling on a http version of a image on my website. I must say it was quite easy and i would advise anybody who is concerned about the change to do it. Really isnt that bad especially if you run a WordPress site which has plugins and dynamic urls which could all be changed at once.

Is there any traffic change you find when you move into https version?
-
Well is has only been a short while since ive moved over but yes there is a drop by about 50%. I did not see any real increase in rankings for my website although i was already ranking first for most of my search terms. The drop could be that https blocks alot of robots which list themselves as organic traffic.
The way I can tell is that my impressions in google webmaster tools are still the same really.

If you have a secure certificate (SSL) on your website, you can automatically redirect visitors to the secured (HTTPS) version of your website to make sure their information is protected. Thanks

Haha well unfortunaly for me I found this out too late my html site was on cloudflare and had a ssl I just always thought it was the comodo i bought, turns out it was cloudflare cert and the comodo certificate was just sitting there, you can only upload your own certificate on the premium version.

Step 1: Host with a dedicated IP address. In order to provide the best security, SSL certificates require your website to have its own dedicated IP address. ...
Step 2: Buy a Certificate. ...
Step 3: Activate the certificate. ...
Step 4: Install the certificate. ...
Step 5: Update your site to use HTTPS.

Based on some experience tried and tested from a technology blog, one should try the following steps while migrating to HTTPS.
1. Get an SSL certificate
2. Make sure set it up properly on web servers.
3. Make redirections properly.
4. Make all the existing links start with HTTPS (rewriting URLs may fix this issue).
5. Test run. Check if the site loads faster or not.
Make sure you use HTTP2 technology which is supported by Nginx.

The HTTP site comes in unsecured sites. Users believe less on it and also avoid using its services. While users are more confident on sites with https certificates because these sites come under security. Taking the https certificate increases the value of your website. It does not have any bad impact on its ranking. While this increases the chances of increasing your Genuine traffic on your website. In a way, we can say that this is beneficial for our website.
