Link building is the basic block of what we call internet. Forget search engines for a minute, no one will be able to navigate without them. Boycott spam because its supreme wastage of resources. Look, people pay money to host servers hosting websites...not for people to come in and get a free lunch. A wbsite like amasci.com is still doing fine because of positive word of mouth and genuine links that people stand by. So, yeah.... Quality finally, finally, finally matters. Quality links will keep you relevant.

This really couldn't have said better. The main thing on which search engine marketers need to focus for 2014 and beyond is quality.
Quality of the content that you're putting out there, and quality (meaning both content quality and quality of relevance) of the sources that link to that content couldn't be more important, as far as Google is concerned.
Which is totally a good thing! Sure, it makes marketers work harder, and requires that a little more thought be put into marketing efforts...but ultimately, the objective is in service of Google making sure that Internet users are connected with content that's of the highest quality and relevance possible.

Hi,
Link building on high PR sites will definitely help you for increase ranking and traffic of your site.
-
Actually the link building has two sides: from one side, it could harm your site, and from the other - it can boost your rankings.
The harmful side is when building low-quality links from non-relevant sites, of course this is very dangerous.
From the good side, as Solid Commerce pointed out, the most important factor in link building is the relevancy of the linking site. It should be in the same niche as the linked site. No matter whether the link is dofollow, nofollow, it should be from valuable sites with rich information on the topic.

Yes Link Building still working but Only with Valuable Backlinks. Stay away from spammy backlinks and low quality backlinks with same anchor text.
-
Yes, because:
They help bring awareness to your website (especially if you are part of a reciprocal link building situation). The audience of the website you cite or mention will certainly see your article on social media or through search.
Because your website is generating more visibility, writers will be more liable to visit your site and relate back to it (giving them that contextual, external link).
The company you mention may want to pass out to you or simply just include that article on their site, which earns you a backlink (great for SEO link juice).
Because you have more recognition, you’re likely to see an increase in social media shares. You aren't having your audience and the audience of the web site you mentioned sharing the article, not to mention it is a higher quality article.
They make you more credible because you’re willing to link out to important sources, which prove you have performed your research and look to others to help create the best article you can create.
Not simply, are you credible, but you’re too trustworthy. Some websites have attempted to experience it all, but contextual links help prove that you are a website that cares more about confidence than being the solution to everything.
Google likes to visit situations, improving reader experience, so your PageRank and rankings should improve.
Your site should gain more traffic because it gains more recognition.
If your site is gaining more traffic, you’re likely to see an increase in sales.
Last but not least, you are offering more information to your reader. This should always be your number one destination.

Yes link building is still important .Without link building we can't expect ranking improvement and traffic to website.

The approach has become different though. You need to find a way on how to build links that send real traffic to your site. The ones that are relevant and can be used by your targeted visitors as their channel in visiting your site. Or, you can build links by earning them.
