need offline credit card transaction for backup

Hi, there:
I am a small business owner, one of the headache problem I have to solve is that the credit card terminal are consistantly out of order, and my customer are really unhappy with it.
Although the imprinter can partially solve the problem, but it is no way to instantly authorize the card holder information, and may be fraud payment.
I need some kind of online or offline credit card service, which can combine or seperate with my store credit card terminal service, the basic requirement is low rate, low monthly fee, I may occasionally use this backup service, or any overhead will be definitely not welcome.
Please contribute your thought or experience, I like to learn.
