I am currently researching ways in which a company can increase brand awareness online - Any tips, ideas or articles would be much appreciated.

As most businesses root from the brick and mortar idea unlike pure online business -- I would advise to promote your company offline as much as you would do online. If you have the budget to splash, a good offline Ad/PR campaign would justify in the long run.
