Off-The Shelf Database!

Hello all,

This is my first posting, so I hope I'm in the right place :D

I'm looking for an off-the-shelf database package and wonder if anyone can give me any recommendations.
I currently use MS Access, with interconnected tables, which enables me to track progress against a particular item. I have the reports set up to print open jobs only and most current progress update (whilst retaining the history).
The problem is that it's becoming an overhead to manage and I would really like to move to something more friendly. Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations?

More friendly than access? That's the most user-friendly database there is. If you're wanting something more robust, you have several options. My SQL is free, from Sun Microsystems, and of course there's MS SQL Server, which is the big brother of access, but it's not as user-friendly, it's a real database. Then of course there's Oracle, the granddaddy of all databases, but that's only really necessary for very large applications.

Thank you for your response. This is only a small database in the grand scheme of things, hence my reason for an off the shelf package. Your 'user friendly' comment is noted and I probably just need to get someone to 'fix' the bits that have become an overhead to bring it up to date. I will however have a look at your SQL as suggested and hopefully I can get something sorted out. Thank you again for taking the time to respond - very much appreciated.

That the name of the database "MySQL", it's not mine, per se. It's Sunn Microsystem's. It's a free open source DB from Sunn.
