I was going through the ordering process and I saw there were options to add(for a couple hundred $) either buttons, templates, logo and/or homepage. I called and spoke with a sales person to ask what the difference was between the template option and the homepage. He explained it a little but also said that as far as the homepage layout it's something that I could do/customize with a little knowledge of html and something else her said. I believe he said html. Where could I learn this and was does it actually require to chage the layout of my homepage? I thought I had a standard layout depending on the template I choose and could not change that.

Thanks.

You do have a standard home page, you just need to design the header. Have you signed up for Voluison's 14 day free trial? It will help you determine how quickly you can learn and how adaptable the template you are using is. I had my business partner (for the personal site) try out the demo. She had NO experience and found it quite intuitive. I also started out with little (very little) html knowledge as was able to put together the first site (tapcostore) in less than 2 months.

If you Google HTML, you should be able to find a lot of sites that will be able to help you. Also, anyone on this forum, or Volusion's, would be more than happy to help you with any problems you have.

Your template is written in a language called CSS. The template is the frame of the site, meaning that no matter what page you are on, that same image will frame the page you are looking at. You can use one of the many templates located in your Admin Area with no knowledge of programming whatsoever. You can layer CSS but at this point, I wouldn't focus on that. A homepage graphic stays only on the homepage. It is important because it (along with your template) sets up the first impression your customers will see.

You may or may not need to know html to set up your homepage graphic. If you are just setting up an image, you would go to the "Website Text" section of your Admin Area, find the HomePage graphic article, and then you can use the Easy Editor to insert the image. If you are linking that image to other pages or cutting that image to link to several pages, you can still use the Easy Editor to set this up in your Volusion store.
