I am in the process of starting an on-line business selling sporting clothing. I am confused as to which shopping cart/store to go woth. I was looking into Volusion. I just want to have a good site with many features. I see in other posts people talk about using Joomla with another company. I really don't know what this is. I guess Joomla does one thing and the other may do another..maybe the shopping cart. I want to be able to have a good amount of features, so if someone could reccommend a very good overall site that would be great.

A lot is going to depend on your level of knowledge. I started with Volusion about 18 months ago knowing squat about internet retail - other than how to shop. Now I've just finished my 3rd store with them and am quite happy. No solution is going to do everything for you but this comes pretty close.

there are many solutions. do alot, i mean alot of reaserch on what is available to you, most have demos.
i use joomla for corporate sites, personal sites and other business sites, i do not use joomla for clients stores.
spend some money and get a quality cart. I personally dont agree with the montly paments for carts, but if you dont know a whole lot about making one and they offer easy solutions then thats a good way to go.
I use CS-cart for my clients carts. its awsome and easy to configure and comes with some nice templates out of the box.
ive helped some customers with thier free carts and they have ended up spending more money then if they went with a commercial cart.
just look into whats available and spend time reaserching.

Volusion is expensive and does not offer as many features.
