Hello,
I was using paypal for sometime but I am not satisfied with the fact my clients have to leave my site to complete they're order. I'm finding many of them get to the Paypal site and don't know what it is and think it is a mistake and they have been forwarded there sometime. Further I think they overcharge for transferring money and some other support issues I've had... anyways I'm looking for something a little more upscale. I want to be able to take the credit card payments right on my site without leaving. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? What are my alternatives? Should I got to my local bank and setup a merchant account? I'm not sure what to do. Any advice would help.
Thanks
Hungree

It depends on how much you are processing. I use Authorize.Net and am very happy with them. Pay Pal Pro might be an alternative for you as it processes without leaving your site.

It depends on what your volume is and your location.
First keep in mind that Authorize.net is not a merchant account provider but an electronic payment gateway - you will still need a merchant account to help you accept credit cards. (How Does a Credit Card Transaction Get Processed? (http://www.totalbusiness.com/Default.aspx?tabid=5527) might help some.
Also Paypal has some options as well to keep the consumer on your website if you are in one of the supported countries.

What are you using for your e-commerce? Many of the programs are set up to use payment gateways from many different company - you just have to decide which merchant account/gateway combination is best.
Note: discount rates, the set up fees and other terms can vary widely. Shop around.

As a consumer, I would be concerned with using lesser known payment systems.

Hi,
I like to offer multiple forms of payment gateways two of which are Card Service Sales (http://www.cardservicesales.com) and ofcourse PayPal (http://www.paypal.com). Card Service Sales is driven by FirstData and tends to have a more "professional" look than the paypal gateway.
If you're interested I also found a Forbes Article (http://www.forbes.com/entrepreneurs/2007/02/20/visa-americanexpress-globalpayment-ent-fin-cx_mf_0220creditcard.html) To help with saving money on credit processing fees. Who wouldn't want that ? ;).

Err..
I blatantly forgot the post was about paypal alternatives!
So in lieu of suggesting paypal (wow what a blooper), I would suggest someone big named, and serious like Verisign (http://www.verisign.com/online-payment-processing/index.html)
Moderator could splice my two posts together since they are consecutive..
Again, apologies for the brain failure.

Actually Paypal bought the Payflow gateway from Verisign sometime last year. So you could use the Payflow gateway along with a merchant account.
And Cardservice Sales is not a gateway - the LinkPoint gateway (which is owned by First Data) is the gateway)
I must say - you post is very similar to Credit Card Processor (http://www.frontpagetalk.com/forums/Credit_Card_Processor/m_58702/p_1/tmode_1/smode_1/tm.htm)

Anyone know of a daily payment processor for high risk ecommerce or telemarketing?

What country are you in? It depends on what you are selling, etc

I'm in Canada, but we also have business in the US. Were selling a Medical Discount Package (Card), and we're also selling Travel Vouchers, but I also have a low risk ecommerce site selling chocolates

(sorry to hijack the orginal question - but just trying to answer the questions)
Well you would definitely want two - one for your chocolates and then one for the other. Canada is a bit different in the way it processes. Paymentech is a larger ISO that might help you. You will probably want a merchant account for each product you are selling since they vary greatly.
Even if you are in the United States, that does help, but do you have a social security number? That would help as well.
Some higher risks businesses like
Auction
Barter associations
Cleaning/janitorial services/supplies
Computer stores
Concert or theater promotion
Contractors/construction/special trade contractors
Coupons/certificates
Diet programs/vitamin sales/herbal remedies–MOTO/Internet
Discount buying clubs/home shopping clubs
Domain name registration
Door-to-door sales
DVD/VHS/CD–Internet sales
Escort services
Financial aid/counseling/student loans/scholarship search services
Fulfillment centers
Furniture stores
Gambling advice
How-to books–mail order/Internet
Long-distance telephone service/prepaid calling cards
Magazine, newsletter, newspaper subscriptions
Massage parlors
Membership clubs
Motor freight carriers
Moving companies or auto transport services
Precious metals/gems and diamonds/rare coins/collectibles
Real estate property sales
Seminars
Timeshare advertising services
Timeshare organizations
would possibly require a deposit by some merchant account providers.
And a lot of providers will not accept Adult-related information services via the Internet/adult DVD/VHS rentals–Internet membership required
Airlines/cruises
Check-cashing establishments
Collection agencies
Credit card protection services
Credit restoration/repair agencies
Debt consolidation services
Drug paraphernalia of any form
Firearm sales–MOTO/Internet
Golf clubs–custom
Illegal products
Internet payment service provider(IPSP); e.g., aggregator (Internet billing for others)
Investment opportunities/investment seminars
Lottery clubs
Medical benefits packages
Merchants offering rebates or special incentives
Money transfer services/cash advances
Mortgage reduction services
Pharmacies – MOTO/Internet
Tobacco sales–MOTO/Internetbecause they are too much of a risk.

I do not claim to know everything about payment processing. Having said that, here are my thoughts on PayPal and credit card processors.
My merchant PayPal account was hacked into about a week ago today. This was not done through my site, but through PayPal's site - so says PayPal. I have since discontinued using PayPal as a payment option on my website. I also would like to add that PayPal is one of the most expensive payment processors around and I have the Pro account. For me anyway, the dollars did not add up for PayPal when compared to the cost of credit card processing. Besides, on my site at least, there were very few PayPal payments when compared to the credit card payments.
Many credit card processors will help you establish merchant accounts along with their payment gateway. I use Authorize.net and they did most of the work for me. And no, the customer never leaves the site. Of course it would be wise to establish a business checking/savings account at a local bank if you can. Remember, depending on how many dollars you process during a given time period, you can negotiate the cost to some degree.
Other than a specific credit card processor, I use Google Checkout and NetCash as other alternatives of payment on my website. Again, these forms of payment are set up so the customer never leaves the site. But again, most of my sales go through the credit card processor.
I hope this helps the original poster of this thread. Keep us informed and Good Luck!:D
I'm using more or less new payment processor site which takes adult sites too. http://www.marketprotector.com
they have a little high fees but they don't complicate and they are flexible with withdrawals...
I'm satisfied with them!

I would like to enrichen your discussion by adding the payment method PAY PER PHONE, a method most suitable for micropayments (lets say up to USD 50).
www.daopay.com offers this service, and since I have been a satisfied customer with them - for almost two years now I might add - I cannot but recommend them.
Greetings,
Frank Zeisel
