I came across a free marketing scheme called "FreeViral" today. Here is the link:
FreeViral (http://www.FreeViral.com/?r=50472)
By means of a kind of "word of mouth" approach, they reckon you'll get up to 1,000,000 visitors. The maths sounds feasible, but does it work? Does anybody have any experience of this kind of approach?

We have recently joined the web world and have been working with a mentor who has years of experience and is a firm believer in Viral Marketing. I haven't experienced a great success with it, but seems like there isn't too much at stake to try it out.

Viral Marketing and FFA (Free for all) advertising are actually two different things.
Viral Marketing is the use of marketing materials that will be sent along to people because they are perceived to have some value. A good example of this is a Free E-Book, E-Zine, or Free Newsletter. These are always going to be a part of the Internet Marketing Plan for reason that if you provide good content for free, it is just logical that people will forward it to their associates and friends. As a Free E-Zine, Newsletter or E-Book is forwarded it becomes "viral" and spreads to many prospects.
FFA or Free for All advertising is something entirely different. If we break down the claim of "FreeViral" to give you 1,000,000 hits or how ever many they claim, we see at least one problem with that. What kind of hits are they talking about? Succeeding in an Internet Business is going to take lots more then just getting hits. Hits will not pay the bills. Targeted Traffic will.
Targeted Traffic is the "hit" that consists of an internet surfer or shopper finding your website at the time they are looking to buy your product or service. Any business person will tell you that the customer who buys from you is worth way more then the prospective customer who is just browsing. It is the same with the Internet. Unless freeviral or any other free advertising or promotional company is actually promising you targeted traffic, don't waste your time.

So what are some of the best ways of getting targeted traffic you were talking about.
I agree with you whole heartedly that hits are meaningless unless they are generating traffic.
Right now I work in an office doing commision sales and if I do not start generating profit.
I am going to have to leave.
Sales is important I am just looking for better ways of generating targeted traffic.
This is the yahoo store I set up 2 days ago
http://store.uscompxchange.com/
The money that I have generated from the web at this point has been from auctions, and design.
Although I really want to start being able to produce advice to my clients as to some of the things that they should do with their marketing campaign.
My current list of marketing ideas.
Brochures
Magazine ads
Tv ads
Newspaper ads
Stationary
Postcards
Business Cards
Should you be doing pay per click traffic I have heard that it really is not a good way to make money.
Do you know of any links to any internet marketing material.
Thank you by the way for your time.

Offline marketing on a budget may require some creativity, but the first thing I can think of is networking. Keep abreast of professional organizations meetings and attend them. When the local chamber of commerce has a meet and greet or even an event. Attend it and introduce yourselfand your services.
Word of mouth referrals. Ask your current clients and former clients for references, testimonials, and referrals. In fact, tell everyone you meet and know exactly what you are doing and that you would appreciate any leads as to who may need your services.
Online promotions work the same way. Network with other business owners who offer services or products that are complimentary with your own. Marketing joint ventures are also viable. When you see a company that is promoting a service that is related to your own, approach them about the possiblity of being mentioned in their newlsetter or E-zine.
And to expand on this idea, write articles about your expertise and area of service and distribute them to "free content" websites and article announcers. Hopefully these ideas will get your juices flowing on how to market your services.

Hello,
There is something that came to my mind as soon as I read your post.
Stay away!
I have a website and my host offers a tool to "submit to FFA sites".
I did this ONCE!
FFA sites are a big thing. That dosen't mean they make YOU any money!
When I submitted. For about 3 weeks I was covered up with emails.
Advertisements from other members.
Getting and reading or deleting these messages takes a Lot of time.
Time is money in the Internet Business.
I myself have "joined" some of these "free" traffic generation
programs. Yes, they produced traffic. But I didn't have the first
buyer!
You know why? Because they were doing the same thing I was doing.
Trying to get Free traffic! They didn't care what I had to offer.
It makes since don't it? You think you'll get traffic and traffic
means money. You get lots of traffic. No sales. Just think of how
many people upgrade before realizing there won't be any sales?
You will get "credits" for "surfing" or placing ads. That's it!
The money is in your list! You have to build your list. I have a
book that tells you how but I don't know the "address" for it at the
moment. I would have to "close out" and go find it.
Watch for a post: Real Traffic Generation! Or you may email me with
Angela in the subject. Nothing else. To Acardwell AT Prtcnet Dot Com
Good Luck,

What a way to totally wreck a website - get a million visitors! And not one of them wants anything!! Still, if you've got bandwidth to waste and nothing useful to do with a website...

Hi
I totally agree with the answer from dlstickler, you have to find real Target Traffic that will buy your products, not just look at your Website.
I myself use Pay-Per-Click program from this company http://www.1stSearchRanking.com/t.cgi?4866 to get Target Traffic to my Website.
It works great me; I really get Target Traffic, not just visitors that click around on my Website.
For me has that paid off well. If you are serious with your online business and want it to pay your bills, you should go for PPC Program.
