Internet Sales Tax

According to a recent article on ECommerce Guide, the push for an Internet sales tax is making progress in California, where a state Senate committee this week approved two bills paving the way for collections on goods sold by out-of-state merchants via the Web.

Pressure is also mounting across the nation for tax collections on Internet sales. Some major online retailers already have begun to collect sales taxes.

As a small to mid-sized business, what are your thoughts/concerns on Internet sales tax? How will it affect your business? Have you already begun collecting them?

Concerning the taxes that Laura wrote about in her Oct. 31 column ('Tale of Two Taxes: Making Sense of the Internet Tax Debate'), the Internet Tax Moratorium is an effort to permanently ban the taxing of
DSL, Cable Modem, or Dial-up Access. This issue touches, of course, all of us that use the Internet.

The U.S. Senate may shortly pull an expensive trick on anyone who uses the Internet to send a message, pay a bill or make an on-line purchase. We should all take action now to prevent state and local governments from taxing Internet access!

We all depend on the Internet for communication. The Senate is ready to pass legislation that would *permanently* prevent state and local
governments from taxing Internet access! This is a good thing :) If the ban ends, state and local governments will be able to tax for access.

The Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act (S.150), ensures that states may not tax consumers for access to the Internet. This bill also (permanently)extends the existing moratorium against multiple taxes on e-commerce.

The Internet provides all of us with an important tool and is crucial for the health of our economy. Currently, half of all Americans have access to the Internet – let's ensure that access to the Information Highway can be expanded to all Americans.

if the senate is trying to con us by dropping the access so they can tax our sales-then i say-vote your senator out of congress if he votes for the sales tax. 2004 is not far off. i have even considered stopping my internet selling all together if congress allows internet sales tax on items-what ever that is-sold.

there are so many variances in each local area on taxing-that it would be a major problem and cost item to stay on the internet.

let your senators and representatives know how you feel, write letters to your local editors etc!!
