What kind of shipping volume do you need to receive a discount from UPS?FedEx etc.? We currently ship about 400 + a month and growing and was curious when UPS is willing to offer discounts for using them to ship. We currently use USPS which we have found to be less money but there are drawbacks with them not having tracking numbers. I would appreciate everyones feedback as I think we can all benefit from this discussion and hopefully learn from one another. Cheers!

Get a UPS salesman and ask.
If you're doing a lot of air or oversize shipment, you probably can. Even if they won't offer discounts yet, UPS has excellent integration support which they will offer and the time savings by increasing your integration can be great. You can also often get scales, label printers, etc. to use when shipping via UPS.
Tips to get UPS discount:
Open a FedEx account. You don't have to use it, just show it to your salesman to demonstrate that you are considering going elsewhere.
DHL has been very aggressive with discounts to grab new customers. Perhaps they'll work for your business.

To increase your shipping volume have all your vendors ship to you using your shipping account (plus it is cheaper).

My company uses UPS and it took a lot of shipping volume to get noticed.

We use overnightmedia.com. They pay a part of our shipping with Fedex when we include their 1 page print advertisement in our packages... We actually get 15% right now.

Hi lalburez,

That is a neat way to advertise. What kind of advertising do they include in your package?

It is only a 1 page print advertisement. When we print our labels the print advertisement get printed right after. We just include it inside the package and that's it.

They pay up to 40% of the Fedex shipping cost just for you to include the advertisement in the package. I think its great...

Can you give an example of what kind of products or services that are being advertised?

Is it the honor system? How does OvernightMedia make sure you are including their advertisements in your box?

It is the Honor system. I forgot to include the advertiement a couple times...
Basically the 1 page is about their Benefits. If you go on their page and you click on the Benefit Tab it is what is on the advertisement + a banner of another website that advertise thru them.

Because it’s totally FREE.
You get access to our promotional shipping integration software.
Overnightmedia keeps track of all your recent shipments. Keeps track of all your frequently used addresses, Shipping History and Reporting Date information
We will pay up to 40% of your FedEx cost if you accept to include our Print Advertisements with all your shipments with FedEx. That way you and Overnightmedia.com get some extra exposure at the same time. The more Print Advertisements you send, the more we pay you to advertise us!
Overnightmedia.com will pay up to 40% of the cost/click for Google AdWords.
You get a FREE E-mail address like yourname@myonm.com
You don't have to be a corporation to send one of our Print Advertisements. You can send only 1 shipment a week and we will still pay some of you FedEx cost.
You have everything to gain by becoming a member of Overnightmedia.com.
And much, much more

lalburez,

I've been using overnighmedia.com since i saw your post here on the forum.
I don't know if you still use them but for me all i can say is so far so good. I use them mostly for shiping documents and the rest of my Fedex packages but everything i ship is under 10lbs. I was using UPS but the customer service was nothing to compare with overnightmedia.

Regards,

Jeremy

Thanks for letting us know how this program worked out for you Jeremy!

How easy is it to integrate Over Night Media with your eCommerce platform?

Well, actually i use them just like i would go on ups or fedex.com and ship my packages. Someone at customer service told me that they can integrate overnightmedia to about any shopping cart and that they are coming with a new website this month and i will be able to chose who i promote to get better rates. So i'm just waiting for the new site...

Get in touch with DHL. Their international program might be quite a bit cheaper for you.

I have tried the DHL. Unfortunately , they are the most expensive and the least reliable one in ALL including Fedex , UPS .
if any of you have any addition information , please let me know.
Many thanks in advance
