This is my first post on these boards, and I've got a lulu of a question.

I'm an intermediate level webdesigner in a small town in the south. I recently got a job with a technology firm that wanting to get into web design. The trouble with starting out is, each new client has a different set of needs and wants, and we don't have the strength of experianced designers. The boss is NOT a micromanager and leaves everything in my/my teams hands, which is great, only it's hard when I'M supposed to be the experianced onw with the answers.

I do rely on message boards to help me out when I get in over my head, and just have questions that I can't find suitable answers for. Google these days seems much more interested in selling things rather than providing answers to questions. Sometimes I don't have 3 hours to dig thru a million web sites to find the one bit of relevant information I'm looking for.

What I'm wanting to know is this:

In your opinions, what is the best canned e-com solution, that allows for complete design freedom, while taking care of alot of the backend code?

I know web design is not a fast process, and the best way to learn is to do it myself, but in the situation I'm in I need all the help I can get. I'm not looking for someone to do the work for me, I'm fully prepaired to do the work and research. I just need a contengency plan for when the water gets too deep.

You're right. Your first post is a lulu.

I suppose it really depends on what format you're most comfortable with. If html and php works for you I always recommend one of the free carts like OSC, Zen or my personal choice, Cube Cart. These are all free to use, require MySQL and Apache and are friendly to customize.

I prefer Zen myself although some would beg to differ but if you want something that is easy to install, customizable, and user friendly then you can't go wrong.

I thing that the best solution is CS-Cart. It's really easy to use and customise. I've build my store on CS-Cart - http://www.qplayer.ru/ and now i'm customising it itself. I don't a good programmer or web-designer but after osCommerce i don't have difficultes for web-design integrate and customizing. And it's only $125. But i think now that all good php shopping carts such as - X-Cart, Squerell Cart, Cs-Cart and others are included all that you need. For more information - http://cs-cart.com/ or http://1shopping cart.com as a standart solution
