Looking for a hybrid shop system

I'm in the process of setting up a website that provides a very useful service in a very small niche market..

What I need is a hybrid shop system that combines the basic buy - sell shoppingcart system with an auction-like system where members can sell their goods, but the good can be sold until the member removes it.

It needs to be able to manage sales directly, and take a percentage of the money and deposit into one account then put the rest into the user's.

There isn't a need for a distribution output as the things for sale are all digital media, but there needs to be a 'licence' like system which allows the user to download the file and have it available for redownload again from a CP.

Is there a system like that available? Because I really don't want to have to spend my time coding one up.

I don't know if other shopping carts are available that do this, but the shopping cart I work for does. Some of our clients use this feature. The following store has many different designers who set up the products that they want to sell.

At the end of the month, the store owner charges a percentage and issues them their cut of the profits. This may not be what you had in mind, but it sounds similar to what you are doing.

It needs to be able to manage sales directly, and take a percentage of the money and deposit into one account then put the rest into the user's.

In the previous example store, the stores owner would distribute the money since they have sole responsibility for the shopping cart. While we currently don't have the ability to show the individual 'designers' their own sales and stats, this is a feature we will add for a later update, since we have current clients who could use it. :)

This is a pretty standard feature in most digital delivery systems. In the Scrapgirls example, her products are exclusively digital.

Is there a system like that available? Because I really don't want to have to spend my time coding one up.

I don't think that all the features you mentioned are currently available in an out of the box type shopping cart. However, there are some options available out there that can come close to what you are seeking. Feel free to contact me directly if you have anymore questions.

You may be able to start with x-cart. It has an E-Goods system built in The user can go back to previous orders, and be able to download again and again. The system is that once they have paid they receive an email with the link to download the software. You are wanting to allow multiple vendors to use the cart to sell their own products. You would need to use x-cart pro for this. Which is built to be used like an amazon (in a way). However, you are also asking for other things that I do not believe x-cart offers straight out of the box. x-cart will do custom development to the cart at $25 an hour to fulfill the rest of your needs.

Have you looked around some of the current Open Source options? How much are you looking to spend? You could always list the specs on getafreelancer.com or get a good open source outsourced development firm to develop the platform for you.

I agree there are some good open source solutions out there. In actual fact open source is getting so good its surprising people are still paying for stuff. I think joomla have a shopping cart solution

Yes. With a Joomla or Mambo site you can add an oscommerce plug in to the CMS. You can also use Virtemart which is a branded/packaged version of this. I am sure VM will grow on its own path, but currently it is quite similar to a default Joomla/Mambo with an osCommerce plug-in added to the admin menu.
