Collaboration software

Hello all!

I am currently evaluating several portal development software services for collaboration and document management. I am looking to build an intranet to allow my project teams to collaborate with vendors, partners and each other.

I have looked and Windows SharePoint Services as well as some others and am still trying make up my mind. Almost all of the services offer hosted services offer a free 30 day trial. What are you using? What do you recommend?

We actually built our own. We determined that even though it costs us significant time and money, in the long run it would pay off since we could add more things to it as necessary

The portal concept is well defined. The Java solution is based on JSR168 Portlet API. You can see the sample (demo) at this URL,

Each pane is aggregated (configured) by selection of different portlets from the list of available portlets. All portlet's attributes (color, location, behavior, theme, etc) are also configured. No programming is required.

Try this one, the open source version of Nuxeo. Provides a very easy installer for Windows.

This is very much like SharePoint, and you can get Calendar and E-Mail Client packages for it, and it's all free. It's in use by several banches of European Governments for thousands of users.

Check out http://www.iradeon.com ... they have a open source collaboration suite with CRM, PM, LMS, and document management for $10 per month per user.

I think the iradeon service is based on SugarCRM, so it has a pretty solid base.

Did you have a look at Office 2007 betas? There you find an amazing version of Sharepoint and the newly acquired Groove.
Worth a look.
