While I agree with you to some degree (Flash has been abused in many cases, more often than not), I think that Flash has it's place on the Web.

In particular, Flash is well suited for "feature areas" on corporate homepages and for illustration purposes (i.e., product slideshows, demos, etc.). A good example of a fairly elegant feature area is that of Salesforce.com (http://www.salesforce.com), the popular Web CRM company. It gets the job done and from my experience most people do like a little bit of a show as long as it's not overdone. A static image might be well suited in its place, too, but I doubt that too many people complain about it.

Also, sites like homestarrunner.com (http://www.homestarrunner.com) for pure entertainment purposes are great applications. I'm sure there are other good uses of Flash...

However, I do agree that the sayaproduction.com (http://www.sayaproductions.com) site has an annoying feature area. This is the company of the original poster of the thread. I tend to not like Flash that constantly animates; it might just be me...

I use a program called Wink to make online flash tutorials. Very Handy for stuff like that... Yeah and it can be over done. A running joke at our old company was: How do you tell the Marketting Department designed the website? The 15 Minute Flash Intro.

My old now bust .com employer had one of those sites.

Well call me old fashioned but I don't agree with putting something on a main page that requires a plug-in.

If the idea is to keep the visitor on the site it does not make sense to give them something to do, like download a plug-in, instead of getting them to the information they are looking for.

If you want to give them a "guided tour" by all means, give them a flash presentation, but don’t require it on the front page.

Consider your target market also. Are they broadband? How long will it take the slowest connection to download your home page with and without the flash?

Ahhhhh... the good old flash thing... I find flash good for product/service demos, presentations and games.

Dear readers,

As much as i agree with the rest of you that flash does stand a place in the web as well as does well in movies, i have to agree with dotcompro.

It may be an old fashioned idea, but i believe that people who come online, wants only a few main things:

1. Find information they need
2. Easy access to info the need
3. Easy access to products they need
4. FAST

So basically, flash can look good but well, as one of them put it, 15 min flash... That is ridiculous.

Even for navigation purposes, flash banners are cool but unnecessary.

I go for "fit for purpose" material.

Expect my site to be simple if i ever build one. Haha.

Apologies if offended anyone. Thanks
G'day
