I have an idea for a website, and it would envolve a database/Server/Website. I know what I want, just do not know how to go about it?
I am quite good with spreadsheets, and a novice at websites, I just need help starting?
Any help or advice will be most welcome.

Hayley,
I'm not sure I understand your question.
You looking for info on how to create a web site or on how to tie in a database to a web site?

The Old Sarge? That name sound familiar :)
Since it involves a database, you need to use server side language (ASP, .NET, PHP) to communicate with the DB. If you are not too familiar with HTML / CSS, you might want to talk to someone else for that. You can check out ASP Tutorial (http://www.w3schools.com/asp/) and if you are a quick learner, you might be able to build it.
Make sure to check with your hosting company to see what they support.

Well do you want to sell physical products or some type of files transferrable over the internet? That's the 1st big distinction. Will you be taking credit cards as payment, or paypal, or using advertising to generate revenue? Please give as much info as possible.

I was thinking of possibly using advertising to generate revenue, but will that be enough? What sort of money would I get? There is possibly a need for this service, and I could get membership, there are free services out there, but not as good as I would like my website to be. I would like a very good search functionality, and to store atleast 10's of thousands meta data. For the speed I would like this set up as soon as possible, and I think I may get rather frustrated in doing it myself. Is there a comapny I could go to, that could give me a quote on how much it would cost to do? Many Thanks for your help. Regards
Hayley

Well our company generates revenue from advertising, but I'm afraid that I don't have any monetary figures to give (entirely different department than mine). All I can say is at 1st it probably won't generate much. Ad rates depend on the popularity of the site to an extent, so if it's a new site, you'll have trouble finding advertisers. Once you can show them a considerable hit rate, that would change, and if the site is popular enough, they'll contact you.
